10 Hearing Aid Battery Tips

Want to maximize the life and power of your hearing aid batteries? These 10 tips will help optimize their performance:

  1. Let the battery sit for a few minutes after removing the tab. This will allow time for the battery to activate as air mixes with the materials inside.
  2. Wash your hands before changing your hearing aid batteries. Dirt and grease can clog the small holes on the battery causing it not to work optimally.
  3. Open the battery door to your hearing aids when you go to sleep. By doing this you are turning the hearing aid off and therefore won't be draining the battery as much.
  4. Use a dri-aid kit or electric hearing aid dehumidifier. Moisture is the enemy of hearing aids and batteries, by removing moisture as much as possible, they will both last longer.
  5. Remove your batteries from your hearing aid if you won't be wearing them for a long period of time. This will reduce the chances of corrosion from trapped moisture.
  6. Check the expiry date. Hearing aid batteries come with expiry dates printed on their packaging. Make sure to not use batteries that have gone past their expiry date.
  7. Use the oldest batteries first. This ties into tip #6. By using the oldest first, you reduce the chance of going over your expiry date.
  8. Don't remove the sticker until needed. Keep the sticker tab on your hearing aid batteries until you're going to use them in your hearing aids. Once the sticker is off, the batteries are active and start draining slowly.
  9. Keep your batteries cool and moisture free. Make sure to store your batteries in a cool, not cold, location and as far away from moisture as possible.
  10. Ask us about rechargeable hearing aids! Rechargeable hearing aid batteries have been around for a few years now, but rechargeable hearing aids are new to the market.
